Best Dance Music 1983

One of my favorite things about 80's dance music, is actually being able to remember events that happened through the years. 1983 was a year dominated by interesting music, and very different attitudes. 80's fashion was starting to take shape. Remember Parachute Pants? With a year popular for the Movies "Fame" and "Star Wars: Return to the Jedi." How could you not like 1983?

The dance music of 1983 was dominated by Michael Jackson, Culture Club, and Madonna. Yes Madonna. Madonna actually released "Everybody" in 1982, but it was the smash song "Holiday" that broke her out in 1983. "Holiday" was a great dance jam, and the extended 12" single was great as well as hard to find. Soft Cell's "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" was also one of those special dance music remixes, and it was long too! As memory serves me I think it was close to 9 minutes long.

1983 would also be the year for the groundbreaking 15 minute music video of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" I remember as a teen sitting in front of the TV at 7PM or so excited with the anticipation of this great new video that would indeed make Michael the "King of Pop".

What was your favorite memory of 1983?
