Best Dance Music 1982

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" Release November 30th 1982.
The best dance music of the 80's probably started in the year 1982. Disco had finally met it's demise and the Synthesizer dominated most hit's from this year. 1982 was the start of the second British Invasion, groups like Culture Club, Depeche Mode, Joy Division (which later became New Order), Eurythmics, Men At Work all began releasing songs that many still enjoy to this day. I am one of them!

1982 was also the year that the Commodore 64 8 bit home computer was released. At the end of the year Time magazine would award it's man of the year to the COMPUTER. Ah yes the technological decades began. Can you imagine what like would have been like in 1982 with Facebook, Google, and the internet?

On November 30th Michael Jackson would release the biggest selling record of all time. "Thriller" would have some of the most memorable dance music on it. The extended version of "Billie Jean" has been sampled over 250 times through the 90's to today!

1982 saw a bigger surge in dance music being sold commercially for the first time ever. I remember as a teenager buying my first 12" Extended Single which was for Culture Club's "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". Two of the 12" would be mixed together to get that classic dance remix. Although the song is slower in BPM (Beats Per Minute) by today's standards, it stands out for me.

What was your favorite song from 1982?
