Best Dance Music 1981

1981 was a big year of change for dance music, and a bigger year of change politically. In January Greece entered into the European Community and would later be a part of the European Union. A month later Athens would experience a 6.7 earthquake killing 16. 1981 was also the year of the Columbia Space Shuttle accident.

But August 1st will be a great day for 80's dance music. MTV is launched on American Cable stations, ushering in the "I Want My MTV" slogan. The cable channel would be responsible for changing the music industry as it was at the time, and give music artists a wider audience through the music video.

81's dance music brought with it more Extended Remixes (still not catching on with buying masses) more synth's styled sounds, and more of a club feel compared to it's Disco counterpart, which would ultimately see it's decline in popularity by the end of the year.

1981 was a great year for 80's dance music, and we will go into further detail and hear those wonderful hit's in later posts. Hang on 1981 was a very good year indeed.
