Best Dance Music 1989

The best dance music of the 80's wouldn't be complete without the year 1989. For obvious and not so obvious reasons 1989 had some hits, some misses, some controversies and was just plain weird. 1989 Did however give us some the biggest party room songs, anthem floor fillers and instant hit songs. The year clearly belonged to Milli Vanilli who's scandal still brought the producers millions, with 4 hit singles and some of the best 12" remixes I could help but go back and listen. The songs to by surprise hold up really well, even if we all were duped! 1989 also was a good year for breakout star Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson was on a Rhythm Nation, and things were getting really funky. 80's dance music never sounded so good!

1989 ushered in the 41st president George Bush Sr. Let's see what else was going on in the world in 1989. Sienfeld premiers, The Simpsons first episode premiers, Rain Man wins best picture at the Academy Awards, the Exxon Valdez oil spill, Nintendo releases the Game Boy, the Menendez brothers shoot their parents, and Voyager 2 gives us a peek at planet Neptune and it's moon Triton.

All this good news aside the time to look back at the ending year of 80's dance music will be here. We are going to go back and look at the floor shakers of that time, and maybe hint at what's to come in the 90's. Hey if you lived through this decade, you know the music was great.

What was your favorite 80's dance hit from 1989?
