Best Dance Music 1987

Cause you gotta have "Faith"
You know when I start to gush about the best dance music of the 80's, I'm gonna mention 1987 right? Well you are correct my friend! 1987 saw George Michael rise to fame with "Faith", ABC asked "When Smokey Sings". Janet Jackson was in "Control" and Michael Jackson was "Bad" but in a good way. Whitney Houston hit the big time with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and Jody Watley was  "Lookin For A New Love". Yes it's safe to say that 1987 was a big year in 80's dance music. Sales of 12" singles were at a commercial high. For me 1987 was a silly year for music but fun none the less.

1987 also had some interesting news as well. Starting the year off Aretha Franklin was the first woman introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Iran-Contra Affair continued, AZT was approved by the US FDA to for the treatment of HIV/Aids, The Simpsons first appear as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, and Canada introduces the dollar coin called "The Loonie".

In upcoming posts will explore 1987's house and acid side of 80's dance music, the remixes, the videos and the fashion. So much more is to come, and remember "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" because Wang Chung said so!

Was 1987 a special year for you?
