Best Dance Music 1985

When thinking about the best dance music of the 80's, you get to the middle of the decade and wonder. With so much great music to dance too, how to pick the best. 1985 was on of those years. As a 15 year old with a love of everything Synth, I had just that hard of a time picking songs that I would feature on this blog. 1985 was the continuation of the world dominant Madonna, the end of Prince's "Purple Rain", the beginning of Wham, and Frankie saying Relax. In the 80's club music scene the group Lime was heating up the floors.

Lime also had a big hit in 1981 "Your Love" and 1983 "Angel Eyes" but in 1985 those two songs were on many DJ's turntables.

1985 was also the year of USA for Africa, Live Aid, and the beginning of the "Back to the Future" franchise. "Back to the Future" was also the biggest grossing movie of the year. Other note worthy things that happened in 1985 include the decommissioning of US Route 66. The song "Route 66" would eventually crop up the next year in a remix form from Depeche Mode.

In upcoming post we will delve into a great year in dance music, as 1985 was the beginning of many Chicago classic house tracks, and the continuing popularity of the 12" Dance Single, now referred to as a "Maxi Single".

Did you buy 12" singles back in 1985? If so what were your favorites?
